Leena Lehtolainen thrillers out in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Israel and Armenia

This spring has seen the publication of iconic Finnish crime author Leena Lehtolainen‘s books around the world. In Hungary, Animus published The Killing One (Tappava säde, Tammi 1999), a Maria Kallio mystery set in a women’s shelter. Hungarian translation was done by Edit G. Bogar. Animus has previously published the Hungarian edition of My First Murder (Ensimmäinen murhani, Tammi 1993), the first part in the series.

In the Czech Republic, Argo published the first entry in Lehtolainen’s Bodyguard Trilogy (Tammi) starring hard-boiled and haunted professional bodyguard Hilja Ilveskero. The Czech translation of The Bodyguard (Henkivartija, Tammi 2009) has been penned by Lenka Fárová.

In Israel, Penn came out with the Hebrew edition of Her Enemy (Harmin paikka, Tammi 1994), the classic second entry in Lehtolainen’s mystery series starring police officer Maria Kallio. The Hebrew text has been translated by Dana Shulga-Raz. Penn has also published the Hebrew edition of My First Murder.

In Armenia, meanwhile, Guitank published The Bodyguard with an Armenian translation by Aleksandr Aghabekyan in early 2014.

Lehtolainen’s next project, a stand-alone work of literary fiction entitled A Life in Six Scenes (Kuusi kohtausta Sadusta, Tammi 2014), will be published in Finland this autumn. Rights to Lehtolainen’s works have been sold in 29 languages.

Leena Lehtolainen is the top female crime author in Finland: her new titles always head straight to #1 on the Finnish bestseller lists.
