Bestselling author Leena Lehtolainen generates buzz and meets readers around the world

LehtolainenNewsletterOct222014Known best for her internationally bestselling crime fiction series, author Leena Lehtolainen generated major buzz during the Frankfurt Book Fair with her new work of upmarket women’s fiction, A Life in Six Scenes (Kuusi kohtausta Sadusta, Tammi 2014).

“[Character] Heikki Sirviö wrestles with his own motivations, as do all authors of memoirs and biographies. What will he leave out and what will he highlight in order to tell an interesting true story? The question remains: who has the copyright to one’s own life?”
Helsingin sanomat newspaper, Finland

Lehtolainen has written more than 20 novels, and rights to her works have been sold in 29 territories. Earlier this month she participated in a crime fiction-themed discussion at the Harbour Front Literaturfestival in Hamburg, and met readers and international publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Just over a week earlier she had appeared at the Festival Est-Ouest in southerastern France alongside several Finnish authors, including Johanna Sinisalo.

This Friday, October 24th, Lehtolainen will take part in a Nordic Crime Evening at Rock Café in Prague alongside Swedish author Johan Theorin. The event is part of the fifth annual Nordic Days Festival; see here for more information. On Saturday she will do a signing at the Palace of Books Luxor in Prague’s Wenceslas square.

On November 11th, Lehtolainen will visit New York for the launch of the new Helsinki Noir anthology, published by Akashic Books. See more information here. AmazonCrossing will publish Lehtolainen’s novels Snow Woman (Tammi 1996) and The Bodyguard (Tammi 2009) later this year.

Leena Lehtolainen

Leena Lehtolainen is the top female crime author in Finland: her new titles always head straight to #1 on the Finnish bestseller lists.

Leena Lehtolainen is Finland’s bestselling female crime writer and created her successful protagonist, detective Maria Kallio, in 1993. Leena Lehtolainen has also published outside the crime genre; her book The Charm of Figure Skating was voted sports book of the year 2010 in Finland, and A Life in Six Scenes showed her return to literary fiction.

In her free time, Lehtolainen enjoys all kinds of music from 70’s punk to Schubert and Bach – just like Maria Kallio, the heroine of Lehtolainen’s crime novel series.

And just like the events in Bodyguard, a trilogy that takes the heroine Hilja Ilveskero all around Europe, Lehtolainen’s own work takes her to book festivals, exhibitions and other events across the globe.
