Women’s fiction from Leena Lehtolainen, A Life in Six Scenes, published today!

LehtolainenAugust2014_2A Life in Six Scenes (Kuusi kohtausta Sadusta, Tammi 2014), the new women’s fiction novel by Finland’s bestselling female crime author Leena Lehtolainen, hits bookstores this week. Known particularly for her Maria Kallio and Bodyguard crime series that both star complex and tough woman protagonists, Lehtolainen returns to literary fiction with her new book. Lehtolainen has published more than 20 novels, and rights to her works have been sold in 29 territories, sales exceeding 2 million copies worldwide.

A Life in Six Scenes tells the story of magnetic but divisive artist Satu Savinainen and director Heikki Sirviö, who is adapting her life into a play. Although enthusiastic about the production at first, Satu begins to get second thoughts about the collision between her private and public lives, and by opening night, she has disappeared.

“Who has the right to define, or describe the life of, another person? Can a person break down if his or her life is, essentially, stolen? I wanted to examine these questions and experiment with a completely new structure by including a play within a novel,” Lehtolainen has said to describe the novel.

Beyond A Life in Six Scenes, Lehtolainen continues to win over new readers around the world. Livani in Greece and Zvaigzne in Latvia published translations of My First Murder (Ensimmäinen murhani, Tammi 1993), Book 1 in the Maria Kallio series.

In addition, the Brazilian edition of the fourth Maria Kallio novel, Snow Woman (Luminainen, Tammi 1996), published by Autentica, has received praise from local critics and bloggers since its publication in May.

Praise in Brazil for Snow Woman:

“[Snow Woman] depicts an authentic-feeling police investigation in which not everything wraps up perfectly in the end…I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys good detective fiction.”
Livros, vamos devora-los (“We Devour Books”) literary blog, five stars

“Maria Kallio is a smart and strong character….This is an amazing book, and I loved getting to know this author.”

Leena Lehtolainen

Leena Lehtolainen is the top female crime author in Finland: her new titles always head straight to #1 on the Finnish bestseller lists.

Leena Lehtolainen is Finland’s bestselling female crime writer and created her successful protagonist, detective Maria Kallio, in 1993.
