Rights to Salla Simukka’s Snow White Trilogy sold in Slovakia: 42 total territories!

Simukka newsletter May52014We are thrilled to announce that Verbarium in Slovakia has acquired rights to Salla Simukka’s global smash success, The Snow White Trilogy, bringing Simukka’s total number of sold territories to 42.

“It’s a real YA ‘thrillogy,’ which will send shivers through Slovak readers too,” said Verbarium editor Ildiko Janco Meszaros in praise of the series.

Earlier this year rights to the YA trilogy were sold in Japan to Nishimura, in Malaysia to Buku Fixi, in Thailand to Nanmee Books and in Vietnam to Alpha Books.

The first entry in the series, As Red as Blood (Punainen kuin veri, Tammi 2013), has already been published in several countries, including Norway (Gyldendal), Romania (Trei), the Czech Republic (Egmont), Poland (Foksal), Greece (Metaixmio), Hungary (Athaeneum) and the Netherlands and Belgium (Clavis). World English publication by Hot Key in the UK and Amazon in the U.S is scheduled for August.

The third part in the series, As Black as Ebony (Musta kuin eebenpuu, Tammi 2014) was published in February in Finland to an enthusiastic critical reception.

As Black as Ebony is stylishly constructed entertainment, but it also addresses weightier issues. In narrating Lumikki’s tragic family history the author reminds us of the importance of communication and openness.”
Etelä-Saimaa newspaper, Finland

“Simukka has once again done excellent work. The overlapping theme in the story, the hide-and-seek game between the pursuer and the pursued, hits a nerve. Smart narration creates an electric mood.”
Keskisuomalainen newspaper, Finland

The Snow White Trilogy tells the story of Lumikki Andersson, a fiercely self-reliant and headstrong 17-year-old living in the city of Tampere in Finland. As she comes face-to-face with criminal operations and life-threatening situations, she is also forced to examine her own dark side. A lone wolf, she is like Lisbeth Salander for the YA readership.

Salla Simukka (b. 1981) is a translator and author of juvenile fiction. She is the winner of the 2013 Topelius Prize for the best Finnish youth novel for Without a Trace (Jäljellä, Tammi Spring 2012) and Elsewhere (Toisaalla, Tammi Fall 2012), as well as the 2013 Finland Prize. The Snow White Trilogy comprises As Red as Blood, As White as Snow (Valkoinen kuin lumi, Tammi 2013) and As Black as Ebony (Musta kuin eebenpuu, Tammi 2014).
