Rave reviews for Salla Simukka in Sweden

SallaNewsletterSept302014_5Salla Simukka’s phenomenal YA success, the Snow White Trilogy, has been sold in 46 countries and counting! Over 20 international publishers have recently launched the thriller trilogy with Book 1, As Red as Blood (Tammi 2013), while Clavis has published the Dutch edition of Book 2, As White as Snow (Tammi 2013).

Recent international editions of As Red as Blood include Swedish by Rabén & Sjögren, Arabic by Arab Scientific, Complex Chinese by Emily Publishing, Danish by Gyldendal, Hebrew by Yedioth, Serbian by Vulkan and Simplified Chinese by Modern Press. In Germany Arena, meanwhile, has published So rot vie Blut just in time for Frankfurt Book Fair. Upcoming releases include eg. Spanish and Catalan by La Galera in late October, and the French YA edition by Hachette/Black Moon and adult fiction edition by Hachette/Livre de Poche in the beginning of November.

Earlier this month Salla Simukka visited Stockholm and Uppsala as the guest of Rabén & Sjögren to celebrate the Swedish launch of the Snow White Trilogy. Her visit attracted major media attention: Dagens Nyheter newspaper gave As Red as Blood a rave review (see more below), and Uppsala’s daily newspaper UNT published a feature on Simukka’s experiences in the city as an exchange student ten years ago. Simukka also visited Sveriges Radio for an on-air interview.

Next week Salla Simukka will attend the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Finland is Guest of Honour.

Swedish critics have praised As Red as Blood:

“Simukka utilizes snow to a maximum effect, turning it into a lethal area of white stretching between small, warm points of safety… As Red as Blood is an unusual and original suspense story that manages to combine tension with stylistic brilliance.”
Dagens nyheter newspaper, Sweden (also included on the Dagens nyheter list of 2014’s best children’s and YA suspense novels)

“Lumikki is a really kick-ass heroine. She is like the new Jack Reacher disguised as a high school girl – but without the cheesy one-liners.”
Bokhuset literature blog, Sweden

“This is a really exciting thriller with a main character, Lumikki Andersson, who is difficult not to like, and a movie-like story…Lumikki is like a cross between Buffy Summers and Veronica Mars.”
Old Adult Reads Young Adult literature blog, Sweden

“This book was very intelligently written! … I don’t really know how I will be able to wait until the spring to read the next part in the trilogy — I’m almost contemplating learning Finnish so I can read it now!”
AlexBokhylla literature blog, Sweden
