Since its publication earlier this month, Salla Simukka’s As Red as Blood (Tammi 2013), the first entry in the Snow White Trilogy, has received a lot of positive attention from French literary bloggers. As Red as Blood was published simultaneously as a YA edition by Hachette/Black Moon and as an adult edition by Livre de Poche in November.
In Brazil, where Novo Conceito has published As Red as Blood (Tammi 2013), Simukka will answer questions on Google Hangout today, November 25th at 1:00 pm Brazilian time (follow the discussion via Novo Conceito’s Youtube channel).
In the U.S, meanwhile, YA Mag has published a Q&A with Simukka, in which she talks about her inspiration for the character of Lumikki, her favourite YA authors, and her ideal cast for the film adaptation of the Snow White Trilogy. Read the interview here.

Praise in France for As Red as Blood:
“The pacing of the story is very good…The author gets into the thick of it early, and one starts asking questions of “why” and “how.”…Lumikki is a curious girl, and her curiosity rubs off on the reader…Simukka’s writing is very special; she has her own style.”
– Enjoy Books literature blog, France
“Nordic authors have brought a new twist into the literary world…the narration is mysterious, almost lyrical, and much more…the strength of this novel is undoubtedly the main character of Lumikki. She is a strong young woman, intelligent and independent, and not without a sense of empathy…this is addictive and well written, with a character of gold…a new hit series without a doubt!”
– La Bibliotheque de Jake literature blog, France
“The story keeps us in its web from beginning to end….I was fascinated by the story, and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. [Simukka] showed how small mistakes could have major consequences.”
