Dr. Tuula Karjalainen’s The Life and Art of Tove Jansson (Tove Jansson – Tee työtä ja rakasta, Tammi 2013), narrating the multifaceted artistic career of the creator of the Moomins, will be published in 10 territories throughout 2014, Jansson’s 100th anniversary year. In Finland Tammi published the biography in Finnish and Schildts & Söderströms in Swedish in 2013.
In January, Norstedts in Sweden published The Life and Art of Tove Jansson to a positive critical response. Penguin will publish the World English edition of the book in December.

Dr. Tuula Karjalainen (b. 1942), Finnish art historian and nonfiction writer, has previously worked as director of the Helsinki Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki. In January of this year Karjalainen was awarded the annual Lauri Jäntti Prize for The Life and Art of Tove Jansson, given to the author of an outstanding work of Finnish nonfiction.
A touring 100th anniversary exhibition of Tove Jansson’s work, curated by Karjalainen, opens tomorrow, March 14th, at Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki. The exhibition will be on display in Ateneum until September 7th, after which it will move to Japan.
