Readers and critics love Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville

RR_newsletterAug262014Since arriving in bookstores early this month, Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola’s Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville (Risto Räppääjä ja Sevillan saituri, Tammi 2014) has earned plenty of critical praise and topped bestseller lists.

In the book, Ricky meets a fabulously wealthy relative who is contemplating giving him a large inheritance. Ricky’s aunts coach and groom him for the meeting – although he is more interested in a new drum set than a hefty bank account. Inside the grumpy scrooge’s labyrinthine mansion, Ricky and Nelly find out that there is more than meets the eye, and false accusations eventually give way to unexpected friendships.

Praise for Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville:

“My 11-year-old devoured the book on his own….when I asked why, he said: ‘it was written in this annoying way where at the end of each chapter the story was left hanging and I would have been frustrated if I didn’t find out how it continued.’ There is hardly a more beautiful way a critic can praise an author’s storytelling skills – in this case Sinikka and Tiina Nopola’s.”
Helsingin sanomat newspaper, Finland

“The success of this children’s book series has been the result of rigorous and professional writing. The enduring popularity of Ricky Rapper reflects the fact that Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola have managed to keep their readership happy. The latest book in the series is outstanding…the Nopolas are masters of charming storytelling and skillful language.”
Savon Sanomat newspaper, Finland

”Because the set-up of this story is, in spite of its goofiness, believable, it moves along naturally.”
Kaleva newspaper, Finland

“Christel Rönns’s illustrations are beginning to feel pleasantly familiar. The story’s twists work well, and it offers a fitting life lesson at the end as well.”
