Authors Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola continue to make a splash abroad, this time in China. Foreign rights to the classic 14-part Hayflower and Quiltshoe (Heinähattu ja Vilttitossu, Tammi) series have been sold to Hubei Children’s Press. The 13-part Ricky Rapper series (Risto Räppääjä, Tammi), the Nopolas’ most popular creation, will be published in China by Beijing Xiron Books.
Ricky Rapper is known as Finland’s most beloved kids’ character, consistently topping the children’s bestseller list and appearing in a popular series of films. The fourth Ricky Rapper movie will premiere in Finland on February 5th. Among illustrator Christel Rönns’s accolades has been the Finlandia Junior Prize in 2012.
The Hayflower and Quiltshoe series, also created by Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola, narrates the adventures of two sisters – one responsible and well-behaved and the other rowdy and free-spirited. The well-known stories have been adapted for the stage and the screen. Illustrator Salla Savolainen has won several awards for her work, including the prestigious Rudolf Koivu Prize in 2005.
A new Ricky Rapper entry will be published this year. In addition, the 8th book in the Hayflower and Quiltshoe series, Hayflower, Quiltshoe and the Annoying Pest (Heinähattu, Vilttitossu ja Littoisten riiviö), will be re-released with new illustrations.
