New reviews and new agents!

We’re starting the fall season and eagerly looking forward to the upcoming book fairs: we’ve got many new and exciting books to offer you!

We’ll be at Frankfurt and Gothenburg book fairs, and still have a couple of slots free in our schedules. Get in touch to secure your meeting!

What’s even more exciting, a new agent will be joining our team: Julia Kellums (in picture) starts on 3rd of September and will be handling sales to e.g. Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Welcome to the team, Julia!

Julia has a MA degree in Comparative Literature, which she studied in Helsinki and Amsterdam. After graduation she has been working in a publishing house as an editor, and she has taught Finnish for foreigners. Julia enjoys reading a good detective book as well as a postmodern classic, but stories about the adolescent experience have a special place in her heart.

New editions of our books are being published all over the globe, such as the Icelandic (Forlagid) and Estonian (Pegasus) editions of Max Seeck’s The Angels of Hammurabi.

Finding Sisu by Katja Pantzar has received many praising reviews: “Will make you want to move to Finland ASAP!” warned Hello Giggles (USA) the readers.

The Angry Widow, Minna Lindgren’s newest novel, was praised as a “cheerful success” by Ilta-Sanomat.

The Bystander by Saara Turunen has raised a lot of attention and was called “fascinating and inspiring” by Turun Sanomat.

In Denmark The Guardian Angel by Arto Halonen and Kevin Frazier was published in June by Hr. Ferdinand, and it has received many great reviews: Femina called the book “intriguing and thrilling”.

Don’t forget to ask us for reading materials – and see you at the book fairs!

Our fiction highlights for London Book Fair

London Book Fair begins tomorrow – and we’ll be there, pitching the best Finnish books of the season to international publishers! Here’s a little overview of the recent reviews of our highlights:

The Angry Widow by Minna Lindgren
“Minna Lindgren writes about aging more hilariously, more sensitively and more sharply than any other contemporary writer.” **** Aamulehti newspaper, Finland

The Bystander by Saara Turunen
”The Bystander deserves praise. It’s a frank, funny and unconventionally laconically told story about a year in the life of its protagonist, a debut author.” – Me Naiset magazine, Finland

The Russia Account by Anniina Tarasova
”The author’s language is fluent and narration gripping. The story has a good rhythm, the scenes change interestingly and the setting is enjoyable.” – Länsi-Savo newspaper, Finland

The Bear’s Bride by Katja Törmänen
”All in all, The Bear’s Bride is one of the most rewarding Finnish fantasy novels I’ve read. It weaves a dense and smooth story of recognizable human issues and successfully uses Northern history in the world-building.” – Muissa maailmoissa literary blog

The Guardian Angel by Arto Halonen & Kevin Frazier
“The questions the work evokes fit perfectly in the year 2018. To which lengths can we be manipulated on a personal or a national level? The book, which is based on a true story, captivates the reader… The novel is so gripping it’s difficult to stop reading it.” – ET magazine, Finland

Crime fiction news round-up of March

We’ve got some criminally good news! This time our news batch includes the best debut winner of the year, new titles in an exciting series and some film news…

The Debut Thriller of the Year Award 2018 to Heikki Valkama for his novel Fugu
Quoting the jury: “Heikki Valkama’s novel Fugu takes the reader on an interesting and appetizing cultural journey. […] For his novel Valkama has chosen a particularly interesting protagonist: a top chef is not your typical crime-solving character. […] Valkama delivers the story naturally and surely. The text is smooth, it doesn’t falter and sweeps the reader away with an ease. Fugu is an exceptionally developed example of entertaining writing.”
