Here’s what the foreign publishers have said about this book:

Hallie Schaeffer, Associate Editor at Flatiron Books, Macmillan US:
“I found Tiina’s writing both lyrical and touching. She moves beautifully between literary criticism, science, and self-reflection, and I think this is a book that readers will find moving as well as educational.”

Mariagrazia Mazzitelli, Editorial Director, Adriano Salani Editore, Italy:
“A highly accessible, engaging, and witty narrative essay, capable of piquing the curiosity of even readers unfamiliar with scientific or existential themes. The author approaches the theme of death, transforming it into a meditation on life.”

Annette Beger, Kommode Verlag (part of mairisch Verlag), Germany:
“I am certain that this topic will become increasingly relevant. I like Tiina Raevaara’s objective style. It gave me space to think and form my very own opinion.”

Mariska Kortie, Editor Non-Fiction, De Bezige Bij, the Netherlands:
“This is a fascinating and witty combination of history, science, and philosophy, that invites us to think deeper about mortality.”

Maria Jesús Zevallos (Planeta México), Mexico:
“In a world where the pursuit of immortality is no longer science fiction… the author’s exploration struck me as not only morally sensible, but also necessary in order to live more fully in the world we inhabit.”

About A SHORT HISTORY OF ETERNAL LIFE:

Science is developing at an even faster pace, and people are living longer and longer. With what methods has humanity over time fought against aging and death, and what methods will be used in the future?

Tiina Raevaara’s book weaves together the beginnings of scientific history, vampire stories, as well as the discoveries of stem cell treatment and gene editing. It dives into the cryotank and asks whether the vision of a lengthy life is still worth pursuing. If humanity accepted that they are part of all things organic – both living and dead – could we finally get rid of all the exhaustion, anxiety and need to rush?
