Sisterland nominated for the ‘Lasten LukuVarkaus’ award

Salla Simukka’s Sisterland has been nominated for the ‘Lasten LukuVarkaus’ award, a literary prize given annually to the best Finnish children’s book for readers up to twelve years old and published in the previous year. The first jury, who shortlist the nominees, comprises professionals in the field of children’s literature, and the winner is selected by a jury of six elementary school pupils. “The story moves with a strong pace and is brimming with imaginative language,” said the jury on the nomination.

 

Sisterland is a middle-grade fantasy novel about the bonds of friendship in the vein of beloved classics such as Alice in Wonderland and The Snow Queen, with delicate monochrome illustrations by Saku Heinänen.
