World English rights to Marko Hautala’s Granny Hatchet sold to AmazonCrossing

Hautala_newsletterAug132014We are thrilled to announce that AmazonCrossing, publisher of top translated literature from around the world, has acquired World English rights to Marko Hautala’s literary horror novel Granny Hatchet (Kuokkamummo, Tammi 2014).

Based on a real Finnish urban legend, Granny Hatchet is a mythical creature who kills her young victims with a hatchet and devours their hearts. Hautala’s devilishly dark novel is set in a small town where two characters return to confront their childhood demons.

Granny Hatchet is grippingly constructed; it combines urban legend, ancient sea creatures, conspiracy theories, growing pains and traumas from adulthood. And, most importantly, it holds a reader effectively in its grasp. This is a truly scary book….the stakes grow higher from one chapter to the next, and character destinies become intertwined…Hautala is a trailblazer who, from one book to the next, has elevated Finnish horror to a new level.”
Turun sanomat newspaper, Finland

“As a horror writer, Marko Hautala is a strongman. He twists the plot so hard that in the end the reader is left wondering how everything happened….The character of Granny Hatchet carries such a chill that the temperature in the pit of one’s stomach seems to go down a few degrees…this is his best work to date.”
Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, Finland

Granny Hatchet is a tour de force. In his sixth novel, Hautala has again managed to mix in a new ingredient: unbridled humour, which flourishes amidst suspense, drama and beautiful descriptions of love….the book startles, terrifies and makes the reader laugh. By far Hautala’s best novel.”
