We are very happy to let you know that thse Swedish option publisher Lind & Co has acquired rights to the latest novel MARIUS by award-winning author Sirpa Kähkönen! The deal was closed by Noora Al-Ani at Ahlbäck Agency.
This is what the publisher Pia Printz says about the book:
“When I saw that Sirpa Kähkönen had written a new novel, I was thrilled. She is such an extraordinary author, with a voice and an outlook on life unlike anyone else’s. ‘Marius’ is no exception. It’s a poetic story that engages all senses at once. You can taste the story, smell the story. The chapter where Lili is in Paris with Peter Quince is the truest and most beautiful description of passion that I’ve ever read.”

“Kähkönen’s language is rich and sensuous. The idea of the limited nature of time runs throughout the novel. The vivid colors of summer in particular serve as a reminder of the transience of all living things. [–] Marius is not a conventional love story. Love makes the characters’ lives both meaningful and painful at the same time. Even though the feelings have faded and the people are gone, past relationships continue to shape how Lili sees herself and the life she has left to live.”
– Jari Olavi Hiltunen, Satakunnan Kansa newspaper
MARIUS is a one-day novel about memory, longing, and desire. Sixty-year-old Lili has developed an intense crush for the young Frenchman Marius, to whom she said goodbye the previous night, and is having a hard time to let go. Then Marius sends her a message, hinting that he may show up again, and the sadness turns into longing. While Lili waits for Marius, she starts thinking back to her youth, her past lovers, romantic adventures, and her fascination with arts and the work of a painter she came to know in her youth. Memories, sensations, and feelings lull her all day and as evening falls Lili is no longer waiting, but she is content.
