Annukka Salama has been awarded the Thank You For The Book award for her novel THE MELTING POINT!
The jury justified its choice by stating that the mere fact that a book gets young people reading is reason enough for praise. In addition, the novel brings forward timely and important themes such as class differences and sexual minorities. The plot is captivating, and even weighty subject matter is woven naturally into the overall narrative. The work received special praise for encouraging enthusiasm for reading. Salama has received a significant number of votes in the Thank You For the Book nomination process in previous years as well.
The Thank You For the Book award is a recognition from publishing professionals to an author whose Finnish- or Swedish‑language work of fiction published in the previous year has been particularly inspiring. The traditional prize was presented on World Book and Copyright Day, also known as Day of Books and Roses, on April 23rd. The award is a Finnish literary award that has been awarded by the Finnish Booksellers’ Association and the Finnish Library Association since 1966. The prize represents the publishing industry’s expression of thanks to the author. The winner is selected by a jury composed of industry experts based on submitted nominations.
The Melting Point has previously won the Blogistania Kuopus award, given out by Finnish social‑media book influencers, and the Queer Book of the Year award! Congratulations Annukka!
