Following the US deal to Flatiron Books, we have another deal for A SHORT HISTORY OF ETERNAL LIFE by Tiina Raevaara! The German rights have been acquired by mairisch Verlag in collaboration with Kommode Verlag! The deal was closed by Elina Ahlbäck at Elina Ahlback Literary Agency. We also have a Portuguese offer on the table for the title. The rights have been sold so far in 7 territories and counting!
This is what Annette Beger from Kommode Verlag says about Raevaara:
“I first heard about the book when I was invited by FILI for the Editors Fellowship in Helsinki last year. Since then, A Short Story of Eternal Life has been constantly on my mind. I am certain that this topic will become increasingly relevant. We are only just beginning to learn about the things that could or should prolong our lives through science and technology. Or they are already doing it. For this very reason, it is important that a book containing facts on the subject—similar to a reference work—will soon be available in German-speaking countries. I like Tiina Raevaara’s objective style. It’s the reason why I had enough space to think about the chapters I’ve read and form my very own opinion. Without a “third voice”. Just me interacting with the content. Loved it.”
mairisch Verlag (founded in 1999) and Kommode Verlag (founded in 2010) is an independent publishing alliance located in Hamburg (Germany) and Zürich (Switzerland). The focus of the program is on narrative non-fiction, which creates a stimulating field of tension in the areas of people and the environment, philosophy or psychology, providing an impetus for new perspectives rather than ready-made answers to complex questions. The focus is on relevant and topical issues that promote discourse on the diversity of society.
The rights are still available in e.g. in the Nordics, Estonia, France, Poland, Czechia, Asian territories… Join the success of A Short History of Eternal Life now!

About A SHORT HISTORY OF ETERNAL LIFE:
Science is developing at an even faster pace, and people are living longer and longer. With what methods has humanity over time fought against aging and death, and what methods will be used in the future?
Tiina Raevaara’s book weaves together the beginnings of scientific history, vampire stories, as well as the discoveries of stem cell treatment and gene editing. It dives into the cryotank and asks whether the vision of a lengthy life is still worth pursuing. If humanity accepted that they are part of all things organic – both living and dead – could we finally get rid of all the exhaustion, anxiety and need to rush?
