More international rave reviews and a visit to the Netherlands and Belgium for Salla Simukka!

Simukka_newsletter_Oct302014Author Salla Simukka continues to tour the world to celebrate the publication of The Snow White Trilogy in various territories. The YA thriller sensation has been sold in 47 territories to date.

Starting this Friday, October 31st, she will visit Belgium and the Netherlands as the guest of her publisher Clavis; on her agenda are signings and interviews at the Antwerp Book Fair (see more information here), a blogger meet and greet in Haarlem and a fairytale-themed party for fans and members of the press in Amsterdam.

The Dutch publication of Books II and III in the trilogy, As White as Snow (Valkea kuin lumi, Tammi 2013) and most recently As Black as Ebony (Musta kuin eebenpuu, Tammi 2014), has continued Simukka’s critical success in Belgium and the Netherlands. Clavis also published Simukka’s Topelius Award -winning Without a Trace (Jäljellä, Tammi 2012) and Elsewhere (Toisaalla, Tammi 2012) this summer to unanimously positive reviews.

Review highlights of As White as Snow and As Black as Ebony in Belgium and the Netherlands:

“Like As Red as Blood, As White as Snow captivates from beginning to end; you can’t put it down. The book has an intriguing and unique protagonist and is exciting, mysterious and magical… while the previous book place in the icy grip of the Finnish winter, here one becomes stunned by the oppressive heat of the Prague summer. Some questions are still left unanswered in the end, so I eagerly wait for the next book.”
Biebmiepje literature blog, the Netherlands

“Lumikki is a good main character because she is strong and thoughtful….and sometimes pretty blunt, which is funny….The story of [As White as Snow] was again very exciting, although very different from As Red as Blood.”
The Bookmarkers literature blog, the Netherlands

“What I find most important is that a book grabs me and makes me want to keep reading. In this realm Simukka absolutely succeeds.”
Books and Kisses literature blog, the Netherlands

“I do not say this often, but [As Black as Ebony] is really the best book in the series. As in the other books, the story is super exciting from the first page. It’s a shame that these books are so thin!”
Het leven van een boekenworm (The Life of a Bookworm), the Netherlands

As Red as Blood (Punainen kuin veri, Tammi 2013), Book I in the trilogy, continues to receive praise in Sweden, where it has already received strong reviews from the likes of Dagens Nyheter, as well as in Germany.

New review highlights of As Red as Blood in Sweden and Germany:

“This book is unique in several ways: one, it takes place in Finland, and I have never read a book by a Finnish writer or about a character living there. Second, it deals with the topic of drug trafficking; usually this is an area explored only in adult detective stories… I also think the main character of Lumikki is interesting. She is very self-aware and guarded.”

The Snow White Trilogy was also included on BokMamma blog and Romeo and Juliet blog’s list of “Top 10 series I want to start” in Sweden.

“The author [Salla Simukka] has succeeded in creating tension that lasts from the first page until the end. She also cleverly tells us about Lumikki’s past without giving away too much: There was a problem in the family, there was humiliation and hurt, and Lumikki didn’t get over her big love…all these things are only touched upon, still leaving enough room for a reader’s imagination. Yet Salla Simukka doesn’t leave the story open, but pulls the important strings together in the end.”
