Will Oiva overcome his fear of flying? A sympathetic story about a small aeroplane and big emotions.

There was a flurry of activity at Bluesky airport. Aeroplanes buzzed on the ground and in the air. The planes, even those resting on the ground, thrummed with the love of flying – every one of them wanted to be airborne! All but one: the small red aeroplane called Oiva. He was deathly afraid of flying.

Oiva’s ears rang and he felt like fainting when he was supposed to take off. Swallows swooped through the air around him. They were so skilled at flying. Why didn’t Oiva dare take off? In the end, he was towed to the back of the airfield and taken to a junk yard.

Every morning Oiva feared that his time had come. But one day a boy called Mikko came to the junk yard with his dad. Mikko was so taken with Oiva that he managed to talk his dad into repairing and repainting Oiva.

At last came the day when Mikko climbed into Oiva’s cockpit with his dad, and Oiva rolled down the runway of Bluesky. Would he have the courage to take off?
