Troll Mountain
After you complete the ex-haus-ting climb up seven hills, and circle the seven blackest stones, you will find Troll Mountain. It is the land of trolls, goblins, pixies, elves, and fairies. In a troll’s house the chimney is crooked and the roof is rife with moss. When a troll baby is born, the troll mom gets a bunch of wild rosemary, and the troll dad sings the troll baby a soft lullaby. Come autumn, the troll grandma brews a pot of tea and chats with the troll in the mirror. During the winter the troll children go sledding and build snow castles and snowmen, and on Mother’s Day Vänkä the troll tries to make breakfast for the troll mother.
Heikki Niska’s captivating poems tell the story of the people of Troll Mountain, and their musings and activities as the seasons change.. Virpi Penna’s cheery illustrations are aglow with a feast of colours and the magic of fairytales.
The Troll and the Storytellers
The troll for salmon went shopping.
It was all for nothing!
The fisherman in his loneliness pined.
For the little mermaid.
The troll while out for dill went dallying.
It was all for nothing!
Not yet done with Jack and the Beanstalk!
The gardener talked, and the buyers balked.
The troll for his shoes went calling.
It was all for nothing!
The cobbler stroked his curls
as he read how Puss-in-Boots purrs.
The troll for flowers went shopping.
It was all for nothing?
No! The seller finished Sleeping Beauty,
and passed the troll a flower pretty.
