Everyday life is full of magic. All you have to do to see it is look closely enough.
Heather is caring for a grave, the final resting place for little Anna from long ago. Heather ponders what Anna’s life was like. Meanwhile, Raoul and Rod are trying to figure out where they can get the money they need for this one really important thing. Thom comes across a strange bottlecollector. And Jack meets a mysterious water-cat, who talks big about building a spaceboat. Who on earth danced on the kitchen table last night with muddy shoes? And what does it feel like to be a stone?
Sari Peltoniemi’s everyday tales are composed of the joys and sorrows of the young, their finest moments and their gray days, too. They are about you, me, and Tuva from next door. Liisa Kallio’s sensitive illustrations are a fine complement to the tales’ wonderful ambiance.

Teany Beany and the Flower
Beany the Tortoise becomes a keen gardener.
The worm is cross, for something is blocking his passage. ‘It’s a seed,’ says Beany, a resourceful little tortoise. Beany plants the seed and looks after it together with his friends the bird and the ladybird. The seed sprouts, a shoot rises from it and grows big. An enormous yellow flower opens out at the end of the stem, it is beautiful! Birds eat seeds from the flower and little Beany makes a salad from the green leaves of the stem. It is autumn and the petals fall off. Beany misses the flower. The bird consoles him. It has saved one seed and gives it to Beany. ‘When you plant this in spring, it’ll grow into a new flower.’ Beany is happy again. He builds a hut from the old withered flower. Beany and the bird play in the hut when it rains; that is where they also wait for the new spring.
The cycle of seasons continues. If you read the story, you will also find out what aphids talk about at their meetings, how a ladybird grins or what the sun is thinking about.

Teany Beany
Teany Beany is a tiny turtle with a problem. His shell has shrunk and he can’t fit in it anymore. Fortunately Teeny Beany finds a red glove that makes a warm outfit. A little too warm, actually. Downright hot. So Teany Beany gives the red glove to a chicken for a tail, and is given a white eggshell in exchange. But Teany Beany stumbles over a procession of ladybirds and the eggshell breaks! In turn, a brown snail gives the turtle a snail shell. Teany Beany fits in it comfortably, but the snail shell starts to roll down a hill. It rolls and rolls and rolls…
The merry adventures of Teany Beany can be followed by even the youngest of readers. Along the journey children can learn different colours and marvel at the exchanges the tiny turtle makes. Get to know all the friends Teany Beany encounters, and marvel at how many things can do duty as a tiny turtle’s outfit.
