Veijo Baltzar
Veijo Baltzar is a Finnish author, whose strong Roma identity and deep knowledge on the culture of the majority have opened strong and critical views on both worlds.
There are over 15 million Roma people in the world, but only very few published Roma authors amongst them. Baltzar’s first novel Polttava tie (The burning Road), published in 1968, was the first Finnish novel which looked at the world of the Roma tribal culture from within.

In Love and War
An epic love story set in the Roma community of Central Europe during the Second World War.
Veijo Baltzar’s novel combines a powerful com- ing-of-age story, historical tragedy and a moving love story. It is a ballad-like portrayal of love in the middle of the most horrific time in European history. In Love and War is also a melodrama and a story of the survival of these landless people whose only homeland is each other.
