Johanna Sinisalo selected as Guest of Honour at Worldcon 2017 in Helsinki!

SinisaloAug2015We are thrilled to announce that award-winning author Johanna Sinisalo, known as “the master of Finnish Weird,” has been named Guest of Honour at the 75th annual Worldcon in 2017.

Established in 1939, the World Science Fiction Convention is held in a different city each year; Helsinki, Finland has been selected as the host of Worldcon 2017!

Johanna Sinisalo is well-known around the world for her imaginative, socially critical and darkly humorous writing. Her numerous accolades include the 2000 Finlandia Prize for Not Before Sundown (Troll: A Love Story; Tammi). Sinisalo has also been selected as guest of honour for Eurocon 2016, a notable European science fiction convention held in Barcelona, Spain.

Sinisalo’s most recent work, The Core of the Sun (Teos 2013), will be published in the U.S. by Grove Atlantic in 2016. The critically acclaimed novel depicts a dystopian version of Finland in which sex has been turned into a commodity, and women have been bred into two subspecies based on their ability to provide pleasure and bear children. The Blood of Angels (Teos 2011), published in the U.S and UK by Peter Owen in 2014, received starred reviews from Library Journal and Booklist, as well as praise from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

Sinisalo’s upcoming novel, Iron Sky: Renate’s Story (working title) is inspired by the 2012 cult film Iron Sky, at which Sinisalo worked as one of the original concept developers. German rights have been acquired by Klett-Cotta.
