The much-awaited 14th book in Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola’s wildly successful Ricky Rapper series, Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville (Risto Räppääjä ja Sevillan saituri, Tammi 2014), has now arrived in Finnish bookstores.
In addition, Sodobnost has just debuted the Slovenian edition of Ricky Rapper and the Horrible Sausage (Risto Räppääjä ja kauhea makkara, Tammi 1998), the second book in the series. In Turkey, meanwhile, Altin Kitaplar published the first book in the series, Time’s Up, Ricky Rapper (Hetki lyö, Risto Räppääjä, Tammi 1997) in May of 2014.
Ricky, a red-headed boy who loves playing drums, rapping, and getting into mild mischief with his best friend Nelly “Noodlehead,” is Finland’s most popular and bestselling contemporary children’s character. Known for their humour and rich characterizations, the Ricky Rapper books have elements of both Pippi Longstocking and the Wimpy Kid series.
In Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville, Fran Rapper receives word of an elderly, fabulously wealthy relative in Seville, Spain, who has heard of the musically talented Ricky and is contemplating giving him a large inheritance.
A film adaptation will hit Finnish cinemas in February of 2015; shooting recently wrapped in the sunny southern Finnish town of Naantali. The previous Ricky Rapper film, Ricky Rapper and Slick Leonard (Risto Räppääjä ja liukas Lennart) has been 2014’s highest-grossing movie in Finland.
