Czech rights to Katri Lipson’s Ice Cream Man sold to Argo!

We are delighted to announce that the Czech rights to the praised and long-awaited novel Ice Cream Man (Jäätekökauppias, Tammi 2012) by Katri Lipson have been acquired by Argo. The State Prize 2012 awarded translator Vladimír Piskoř will translate the work, scheduled to be released in 2013.

Katri Lipson’s new novel is a brilliant depiction of people in the shadow of Czechoslovakia and reviews have been excellent throughout Finnish media.

The novel is a reader’s paradise, full of thematic expansions, the most fully developed ones relating to nationalistic tension. Lipson tackles the topic in a similar vein to Sofi Oksanen, in whose hands nationalism and sexual desire became a lethal combination in Purge.”
